Modern Warfare to have exclusive mode for PS4 for a whole year.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare launched a trailer during Sony’s State of Play and in case you missed it as many did, small text popped up after the Special Ops Survival Mode segment ending with “timed exclusive content until October 1, 2020." Indicating that the entire mode will be exclusive to the PlayStation 4 platform for an entire year. Meaning that by the time the mode hits, the next installment of Call of Duty will more than likely be hitting shelves.

Since Sony’s dominance this year with the PlayStation 4, Activision swapped its exclusive relationship from Xbox to Sony and this has caused their games to feature content first on PlayStation. Destiny was notorious for year-long content with a few guns and strikes, several that ended up going two years, but entire modes have never seen such a wide gap across any Sony favored release.

This has caused widespread outrage among gamers, even those on PlayStation 4 as the game was set to feature crossplay, something that has been demanded by gamers for some time now. This crossplay movement was designed around having gamers play together, but now it seems that this won’t be the case in regards to this new mode. Many have ranted across Twitter and Reddit that they can no longer play with their friends on other consoles in this new mode.

Infinity Ward Studio narrative director, Taylor Kurosaki responded on Twitter saying that Survival is only 1% of the game and that the remaining 99% is "simultaneous day and date across all platforms." This response can come off fairly tone-deaf, in my opinion, and doesn’t really look to explain or sympathize with the outrage.

With the game not too long off from being released, it’s doubtful that this mode will be made available to PC and Xbox users anytime soon.
