Today, Ubisoft announced that its upcoming Skull and Bones title will not hit its intended 2022 release date and instead launch on March 9th, 2023. The pirate game initially spun off from Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag will ship on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, Google Stadia, Amazon Luna, and Windows PC through the Epic Games Store as well as Ubisoft’s own PC storefront. Players can also take to the open seas on its Ubisoft+ Subscription service on PC, Stadia, and Amazon Luna.
Following the announcement of the game’s recent delay, an Open Beta will be held ahead of the game’s worldwide launch, ensuring players get a firsthand look at the dangerous world of Skull and Bones. Those who participate in the Beta will have the opportunity to discover the game's unique take on the piracy fantasy, its gritty naval combat as well as the immersive and beautiful seas of the 17th-century Indian Ocean.
While the game development is finished at this stage, the extra time will be used to further polish and balance the experience using players' feedback from our Technical tests and Insider Program which happened over the past two weeks. Ubisoft states that this is the right decision both for their players and for the game's long-term success as March 9, 2023, provides a suitable release window for this unique new brand.
