NetEase and Marvel have announced Marvel Rivals, a competitive 6x6 hero shooter largely akin to Overwatch. This will be initially be headed to PC and stars a huge list of iconic and familiar heroes and villains across the Marvel universe, including a few newcomers and fairly unknown characters that are bound to turn some heads.
While no release date or additional platforms were listed, there will be a closed Alpha Test available to those who sign up right now that will be running in May.
The current roster for Marvel Rivals is as follows: Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Groot, Hulk, Iron Man, Loki, Luna Snow, Magik, Magneto, Mantis, Namor, Peni Parker, Punchiser, Rocket Raccoon, Scarlet Witch, Spider-Man, Storm, and Star-Lord. Given some of the voice talent on board, there are a few actors who have similar voices to the actors who portrayed certain characters in the MCU.
With such a diverse cropping of heroes and their respective powers, Marvel Rivals showcases a constantly changing battlefield that can be demolished by the onslaught of skills and abilities provided by your heroes. This allows for a great deal of strategy as you begin to dismantle one of several stages expected for launch. Adding to this is the team-up attacks called Dynamic Hero Synergy that will see the likes of Rocket and Groot teaming up, or Ironman and Hulk unleashing destruction with unleashed Gamma Energy.
Marvel Rivals is expected to be free-to-play. and will evolve and gain additional content as each season progresses. This will translate into new characters, stages, and more. Each Season is expected to be narrative-driven with a story penned by the NetEase writing team.
Featured within the multiverse, Doctor Doom and his 2099 counterpart are in the heat of battle, causing countless worlds to be pulled into the Timestream Entanglement. To prevent even greater danger to these worlds, heroes and villains from across the multiverse must team up to save not only their world but every world out there.
