Just moments ago at San Diego Comic-Con, during the Marvel Studios Hall H panel, it was announced that not only would the next Avenger’s movie be titled: Doomsday, but that the casting of Doom would also be announced.
And just who is playing Victor Von Doom? Well, it’s none other than Robert Downey Jr. Wait.. what???
As a parade of Doom bots entered the stage, flagged by one in a much different shade of green, Downey pulled off the mask to strike a very Tony Stark pose. He then said “New mask, same task.” and “see you in two years!”
It’s still unclear just how Downey Jr. will pull this off. Is he a version of Tony from another parallel earth or has the corpse of Tony Stark from 616 been somehow resurrected? Either way, it was confirmed that the cast of the Fantastic Four will also be part of the next two Avenger’s films, making one wonder if they leave their world to follow Doom to the 616 world of the films.
Fantastic Four: First Steps was also announced during the same panel, and will be a retro 60’s sci-fi film that centers around the team having to combat the devastation that is Galactus, this time not as a cloud but something a bit more comic-accurate.
Avenger’s Doomsday is set to release in theatres in May, 2026, with Secret Wars following up one year later.
