During Sony's State of Play on September 24th, just a bit over a month before the world will dive back into Dragon Age, we were treated to some brand new footage, complete with a look at one of the game's bosses.
This footage, and the game itself, follows Dragon Age's newest hero, Rook. In this footage, Rook is fighting alongside Taash and Lucanis. There are seven companions in total, and these make up the Veilgaurd. They are tasked alongside Rook to take on the corrupt ancient gods who are set to destroy the world.
As seen in the trailer, the blightest gods have sent a fearsome dragon upon our heroes. You'll use a series of tactical skills and abilities, as well as commanding your companions in battle via the ability wheel.
In this footage, Rook has been classed as a Mage, one of three classes you can choose when creating your character. Mages call upon the fury of spells that incinerate, freeze, electrocute, and crush. Some spells are perfect for close-range combat or being a bit safer from afar. How you play will be up to you. The Mage class allows for you to swap between two weapon sets. You'll have your staff for ranged attacks while Elemental Orbs and Daggers are perfect for close-quarters combat.
If you notice during the fight, Rook can command your companions to use their abilities, setting up powerful combo attacks. As the dragon is staggered, you can prime the target by having Lucanis use their "debilitate" ability. As "Sundered" status is then applied, you can detonate it via Rook's "Dark Squall" ability, causing a substantial amount of damage.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard will provide a massive amount of content and replayability across three classes and the romance systems that fundamentally change how the game is played. On October 31st, you'll finally be able to return to this stunning world and stop evil at any cost.
