Halo Infinite Delayed to 2021

Microsoft announced today that Halo Infinite, their next major release from 343 Industries has seen a delay to sometime in 2021. The game, which is being treated as both a sequel to Halo 5 as well as a spiritual reboot of the series, was originally planned to launch alongside the November release of the Xbox Series X, their next-generation console.

While a confirmed 2021 release date was not given with today’s news, they commented the following:

Microsoft has stated that the launch of the next-generation Xbox will still go as planned, though many now question what exactly will launch with the console from a first-party perspective. Game Pass, which has been a dominating force for the platform is still set to see many upcoming games release day and date for the console as well as a slew of free Series X upgrades to much of the system’s compatible catalog.

Halo Infinite has also been in the news lately due to the announcement that its multiplayer would also be free-to-play, utilizing the now industry-standard battle pass system. It’s unclear at this time if Xbox Live Gold is required for this “free” version of its multiplayer, and while rumors of Xbox Live Gold going away was debunked by the console maker, it’s still unclear why Microsoft quietly discontinued its 12-month subscriptions.
